Man accused of recording 'rape' to blackmail wife

ahmedabad: A man video recorded intimate moments with his 24-year-old wife and then tried to blackmail her into sleeping with tantriks (witch doctors) who had promised to change his run of misfortune.
The woman filed a complaint at Vatva police station against her husband Alpesh Katpara. She accused him of raping her, video recording the incident and then blackmailing her. She alleged that the man had tried to push her into prostitution.
"The woman's statement has been recorded. She has been sent for medical check-up to Civil Hospital," said police inspector AJ Solanki, who is investigating the case.
The crux of the problem was that even after three years of marriage, the couple did not have any children and the woman's sister-in-law was not getting married. This forced the man to take help of a tantrik (witch doctor). He refused to go for medical examination to treat the problem. The complainant said that every other day, a new witchdoctor would be called in to solve the twin problems and she would be asked to sleep with the witch doctor.
The woman has said that she got married to Alpesh in 2006. Alpesh is a videographer by profession. He convinced his wife that an astrologer told him that if they take porce, then they shall have kids and Alpesh's sister will also get married.
She agreed and the couple took a porce but only on paper. They continued to live together as man and wife in their house in Manokamna apartment, Isanpur.
The victim said that after porce on June 5, Alpesh called in different witch doctors every night. On the first floor of the house, the tantrik would sit and carry out black magic rituals and also made her drink drugged liquid which put her in a semi-conscious state.
She told the police that Alpesh insisted that she allow the tantriks to get physically intimate with her. When she resisted, this angered Alpesh who raped her several times. One day Alpesh showed her some visuals which contained recordings of the rapes. He threatened to defame her by morphing his face and then showing the video recordings to family members and even selling them.
When this failed to work, Alpesh left her at her parent's house in Amraiwadi. The woman's family members are apprehensive that Alpesh might have actually sold the video footage.
