Jaipur: In a shocking incident,
the police have arrested a district transport officer (DTO) of Jodhpur
and two inspectors and an upper-pisional clerk (UDC) of Jhunjhunu
district transport office, when they were allegedly found involved in
preparing fake registration papers of stolen vehicles and selling them
in various districts of Rajasthan, including Nagaur.
The gang was busted when the Kotwali police in Jhunjhunu district were investigating a case of stolen tractor. After investigation, the police arrested five persons, including the DTO.
According to SP (Jhunjhunu) Ajaypal Lamba, a tractor had been stolen from Jhunjhunu and an FIR was lodged with the Kotwali police station a month ago.
"A police team investigated the matter. During this, it came up that there was a gang involved in preparing fake registration papers of stolen vehicles. The search for the truck led us to a thief who had stolen it after which the entire gang was busted," said Lamba.
The police arrested Jodhpur DTO Dinesh Sagar. The other accused are two inspectors, Gopal Krishna and Banwari Lal, UDC, Jagdish Bundel and notary officer Manohar Singh of Jhunjhunu district transport office.
"Sagar is one of the three DTOs in Jodhpur district. He was posted in Jhunjhunu till 2008. We had recovered some fake documents prepared by Sagar when he was the DTO. But as he, himself, was responsible for it, he hid the truth," said Lamba.
Soon after Sagar was transferred to Jodhpur and new DTO, Manoj Kumar took charge, the police again approached him with the complaint. "The new DTO found the charges true after which we arrested Sagar," Lamba added.
Three notary officers of the Jhunjhunu DTO have already been arrested in the case. The police said the accused DTO used to sell the stolen vehicles through mediators in various districts of Rajasthan. "He has confessed to preparing fake registration papers of at least 45 tractors. The sale was made by some mediators. Investigation is still on to nab the mediators who had been involved in selling these vehicles," the SP said.
