Swine Flu: Pune panic comes to Hyderababd
Agencies Friday, Aug 07,2009 12:32 Hrs

Hyderabad: Two families from Pune and several other inpiduals who have been to Pune in the recent past visited Chest Hospital on Thursday to either get their children or themselves tested for swine flu. Swab samples of five inpiduals who have come from Pune were taken by the Chest Hospital.

Among those who visited Chest Hospital was a 10-year-old girl from a Pune school that is adjacent to Loyola which reported a positive swine flu case. "We came here for Rakhi festival yesterday morning as all our relatives stay in Hyderabad. My 10-year-old daughter developed fever and cold subsequently.

She studies in a school adjacent to Loyala, where a student has tested positive. So, as a precautionary measure, I brought her here. She has been given TamiFlu and advised home quarantine. We are awaiting the report from NICD," father of the 10-year-old girl who works in DRDO, Pune, said.

With the situation becoming intense in Pune, Chest Hospital authorities took swab samples of all the suspected cases from Pune even though some had mild fever. "We have collected the samples for the simple reason that they have gone to Pune or come to the city from there. As against the situation in Hyderabad, it is very different in Pune where the virus has spread in the general community. Now, we are closely watching people who have any connection with Pune and show any swine flu symptoms," H1N1 Nodal Centre coordinator Dr K Subhakar said.

In another case, a Hyderbad-based software professional brought his one-and-a-half-year-old nephew from Pune to Chest Hospital. "He came from Pune with my sister for Rakhi festival and developed fever and running nose. After reading the reports (on swine flu scare in Pune), I brought my nephew here," he said.
